Abstract

The volatile external business environment coupled with the ever-increasing ecological uncertainties has greatly affected the elements that in the past described the competitive edge of many successful organizations. As the external conditions continuously become more turbulent, organizations have been forced to consider integration in their overall business strategy; ecological sustainability; ethical considerations in their governance structures and engaging in socially responsible management. The objective of this paper is to examine effect of sustainable strategic agility on sustainable organization performance in the agricultural sector. The study guided by Resource Based and dynamic capabilities theories. A descriptive survey design was employed, targeting a population of 121 respondents involved in human resource management within these farms, from which a sample size of 35 respondents was selected using proportional and purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire, pre-tested for reliability and validity and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics to explore the relationships between the identified variables. The results from this study indicate that flower farms in Kajiado County exhibit a moderate level of sustainable strategic agility across economic, social and environmental pillars. It was also evident that work-life balance a key pillar in a socially responsible organization was lagging behind on certain important administrative actions on staff management adversely staff engagement. The study further found that organizational strategy (r = 0.357, p = 0.001) and host community engagement (r = 0.333, p = 0.002) had a moderate positive correlation with organizational performance, while customer-related factors also showed a moderate correlation (r = 0.311, p = 0.000). Employee welfare (r = 0.161, p = 0.002) and environmental protection efforts (r = -0.147, p = 0.001) had weak correlations. To enhance sustainable strategic agility and organizational performance, flower farms in Kajiado County should invest in workforce creativity and modern talent management practices while adopting comprehensive resource conservation and pollution management strategies. Additionally, ongoing research and development on social and environmental issues, along with improved communication and collaboration with local communities, will strengthen corporate social responsibility efforts and contribute to long-term sustainability.
